The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) is offering new tools, including student access to Adobe Creative Cloud. This semester, you may notice a variety of updates to existing tools, such as an automated transcription service available in Mediasite. There is also a new process for your students to follow in order to connect their personal devices to secure Wi-Fi.
The next round of software updates is now available to install for OTDI-managed workstations via Software Center (for Windows PC) or Ohio State Application Self Service (for Mac). The IT Service Desk will remotely deploy these updates on Friday, August 19 which will require you to restart your machine and/or close applications. You can make these updates at your convenience prior to Friday via your appropriate software update application to avoid interruptions that could occur from an automatic update.
In September, Lynne Sanbe and CK Bhatia will join The Ohio State University as Chief Applications Officer and Chief Data Integrations Officer. Lynne joins Ohio State from Temple University, where she has served as Associate Vice President of Information Technology Services, Applications, and Data since 2007. CK joins the university from Farm-Credit Mid-America, a financial services company where he served as the Chief Data Officer.

Ohio State has been using Mediasite to manage lecture capture and media distribution since 2014. A lot has changed since the university last engaged in a competitive bidding process for a media platform. Our online and hybrid student population has grown, and the technology landscape is very different. Our goal is to ensure the university has the most accessible and user-friendly platform available, making it easy for instructors and students to record and edit media and share it in CarmenCanvas and elsewhere.
Beginning Tuesday, August 9 at 7 a.m., Skype for Business will be making a behind the scenes security change.
Skype for Business users will continue to use BuckeyePass (Duo) multifactor authentication to login and should not notice any change in service due to the security enhancement.

The Ohio State University accounts are being targeting in an increasing number of phishing attempts. Bad actors who send these campaigns often try to get login credentials to gain access to account details, and thus Ohio State’s internal systems and protected information. Last month, there were more than 63,000 credential threat attempts targeting faculty, staff and student email inboxes. While the university’s security systems monitor users’ accounts 24/7 and blocks most of these attempts, a small percentage gets through.

The OTDI Tableau team is pleased to announce the launch of our first training, Tableau Server Fundamentals. This live, 45-minute zoom webinar is intended for anyone who accesses Tableau reports on the university’s server. At the end of training, attendees will learn how to navigate Tableau Server as well as how to set up subscriptions to regularly monitor data, create and save report parameters, and share data.
