Linking Existing AWS Accounts to Ohio State AWS, Launching Department and College IT Team Accounts

Over the past several months, OCIO has collaborated with key university stakeholders and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish a university-configured AWS service for employees, called Ohio State AWS.

The new service enables Ohio State employees to leverage AWS’s impressive portfolio of scalable, on-demand computing, database, storage and application services, but also provides all the benefits of an enterprise service:

  • Simplified, integrated billing pays AWS expenses automatically from the employee’s Ohio State account, enabling departments to identify strategies to reduce costs.
  • Ohio State name.# and BuckeyePass logins integrated with the AWS console.
  • Pre-configured accounts that align with security requirements, Ohio law, intellectual property protections and other university policies.
  • Support specialists from AWS are available to assist Ohio State employees, so they can get help quickly.

…and much more!

The program will move from the Service Readiness phase to the Soft Launch phase starting mid-October. The Soft Launch phase will focus on two groups:

Existing AWS Accounts Used for University Business

If Ohio State employees have existing AWS accounts registered to a university email address and used for university business, they must link the account to the new Ohio State AWS enterprise account. Over the next few months, Amazon Web Services will send account owners an email communication on behalf of Ohio State. The message will include instructions for how to link these accounts to Ohio State AWS.

Due to the volume of existing AWS accounts obtained through aws.amazon.com and tied to university email addresses, Amazon Web Services will send email notifications in two waves. AWS will send notifications to the first group of users during the week of October 15-19 and to a second group, during the week of January 7-11. Account owners do not need to take action until they receive the notification from AWS.

Department and College IT Teams
Managers of department or college IT teams can request an Ohio State AWS Team Account. Please contact osuaws@osu.edu for requirements.
