BuckeyePass: Wi-Fi and Cell Service Snafus
As announced last month, BuckeyePass will protect eTimesheet and eLeave beginning on Sept. 30. Since we began expanding the number of applications protected by BuckeyePass, we’ve heard some concerns about difficulties connecting because of poor cell or Wi-Fi signals. With some advance preparation, there are always solutions.
Weak Cell Service/No Cell Service – your options:
- Configure your device to connect to osuwireless, and then use osuwireless to connect to Duo and the system you wish to access.
- Install the Duo app in advance, which allows you to use codes from the app even if you don’t have cell service
- Do some advance prep by requesting 10 codes via text message that you can save in a secure location in case you don’t have your device.
Weak Wi-Fi/No Wi-Fi Service – your options:
- Install the Duo app in advance, which allows you to use codes from the app even if you don’t have a connection (so you will NOT have to use cell data).
- Do some advance prep by requesting 10 codes via text message that you can save in a secure location in case you don’t have your device.
- Use cell data if your plan supports it (not a requirement, your preference only)
No Cell Service AND No Wi-Fi – your options:
All the systems that BuckeyePass protects require a connection; however, many devices on campus are hardwired into the network. If you have access to the network, but cannot access a cell or Wi-Fi signal to access BuckeyePass, you will still be able to authenticate if you do some advance prep.
- Install the Duo app in advance, which allows you to use codes from the app even if you don’t have a connection (so you will NOT have to use cell data).
- Do some advance prep by requesting 10 codes via text message that you can save in a secure location in case you don’t have your device.
