Microsoft is enacting tighter limits on storage for certain licenses effective February 1, 2024. These limits will affect sponsored guest accounts within Ohio State and Central Ohio Technical College, accounts of faculty with a dual-appointment to the university and medical center, and accounts of medical center staff that are not forwarded to the @osumc.edu domain.
- Email storage will also be capped at 50GB and 50GB in the online mailbox archive. Outlook accounts that exceed the set limits will no longer be able to send emails.
OneDrive storage will be capped at 50GB. OneDrive accounts that exceed the set limits will become “read only,” disabling your ability to save new content.
Beginning the week of Dec. 18, we will be contacting those that may be affected, as well as those sponsoring affected guests. Reminders will be sent to those over the new storage limits in January.
While the new storage limits are beyond our control, the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) and your local IT team can offer you other options for storing necessary data. We are committed to helping you to safely retain any information critical to your work with the university. In addition, we can offer you the following resources to ensure your data is safely stored and the volume is below the established limits:
- To see how much mailbox storage you've used, log on to Outlook for the Web and click on the Settings menu (the gear icon) at the top of the page. Select Settings > General > Storage. You can also check OneDrive numbers online.
- University Libraries has published extensive information about managing files and emails.
- OTDI has published articles about email clean-up, using online archives and applying retention tags:
If storage on your account is near or over the new limit, we will be sending you reminders between now and the end of January to ensure that you have time to decrease your storage and relocate any data to a safe storage alternative.
