Next Round of Workstation Updates Available April 18

The next round of software updates is now available to install for OTDI-managed workstations via Software Center (for Windows PC) or Ohio State Application Self Service (for Mac).

The IT Service Desk remotely deployed these updates on Tuesday, April 18 which will require you to restart your machine and/or close applications. You can make these updates at your convenience prior to then via your appropriate software update application to avoid interruptions that could occur from an automatic update.

What to expect if you do not update in advance:

Windows PC users will begin receiving prompts to reboot on Wednesday, April 19 if their device is turned on and they are logged in. Windows users can delay the reboot for up to 24 hours.

Mac users will begin receiving prompts to reboot on Tuesday, April 18, and can delay reboot until receiving a final notification on Friday, April 21. At that time, they will have 60 minutes to reboot. After the end of 60 minutes, their Mac will reboot automatically. Mac users will receive specific application updates separately (e.g. Adobe, Microsoft Office products). These are currently available in Ohio State Application Self Service. If they do not update by Friday, April 21, a pop-up dialogue box will appear the next time they open the app. They will have 60 minutes to close and reopen the app before being forced to do so. These timelines can change depending on when you turn on and log in to your device.

Apple users are encouraged to install an urgent security update to all Mac devices, iPhones and iPads as soon as possible to their most current supported versions (i.e. MacOS 13.3.1 or iOS 16.4.1). This urgent update is being recommended as a security precaution after Apple discovered a vulnerability in previous versions.

Note: Updates and patching may occur outside of this window when software/applications have security issues that need to be addressed immediately.
