LMS Scanning Tool RFP Now Open
The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) is leading a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an accessibility scanning tool to be integrated within the CarmenCanvas learning management system (LMS) and other Canvas instances. This application will enhance digital accessibility initiatives to improve accessibility to course content led by the ADA Digital Accessibility Center and OTDI's Digital Accessibility Services.
The university is searching for a tool to enable and support instructors’ compliance with the Department of Justice’s new regulations that require all web content, including course content, to meet accessibility standards. The new scanning tool will be able to review content within Carmen and identify items that do not meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. The tool must also be able to provide guidance to correct issues, generate alternate formats for instructional content, and provide reports for leadership and key stakeholders.
The RFP will be open through early June, at which point the RFP committee will review and evaluate the tools. The RFP committee includes:
Molly Mosholder, Systems Accessibility Senior Analyst, ADA Coordinator’s Office
Misty Lenhart, Senior Business Operations Analyst, Digital Accessibility Services, OTDI
Valerie Rake, Associate Director, Learning Systems, OTDI
Lisa Rice, Learning Technology Senior Analyst, OTDI
Jessi Hanna, Instructional Design Specialist, College of Engineering
Amy Lea Clemons, Instructional Consultant, Drake Institute
Jared Gardner, Secretary, University Senate
Sabrina Durso, President, Council of Graduate Students
Faculty and instructional staff will be involved in the selection of the tool as solutions are being evaluated.
The committee plans to select a tool in July 2025 to ensure it is available university-wide before Spring 2026 courses become available.
