    Carmen.osu.edu will soon have a new look and feel! Beginning on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 you can opt to use the new interface when you visit carmen.osu.edu to log in and view your courses. The updated site will become the default during the summer. 

  • Think Twice Before Granting App Permissions

    Some third-party apps, browser extensions, and “study helper” tools ask for broad permissions to your CarmenCanvas account or personal device. While these applications promise convenience, granting access can put your personal data and Ohio State’s data at risk. Pay attention to what access you are giving an app to use your saved data and personal information. 

  • CarmenCanvas AI Assistant under development

    Project Firefly, a Carmen AI assistant, is an instructor-controlled AI tool that integrates directly into CarmenCanvas. It provides students with immediate, course-specific support while giving instructors flexible ways to enhance learning and streamline common interactions.

  • Expanded Exam Monitoring: Honorlock App Now an Option for Instructors

    Learning Systems has enabled the Honorlock App as additional functionality for instructors already using Honorlock. If instructors use this option, students will be asked to download and install a separate app. The app runs in the background while students take their Honorlock-enabled exams using Chrome with the Honorlock Extension enabled.

  • Update: CarmenCanvas Restored

    As of Monday, October 20, at 7:10 p.m., access to CarmenCanvas has been restored. The system was unavailable due to the global Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage.

  • Ally selected in LMS Accessibility Scanner RFP

    Following an evaluation during summer 2025, the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) awarded the bid to Anthology for an accessibility scanning tool to be integrated with within the CarmenCanvas learning management system (LMS) and other Canvas instances.
