Expanded Exam Monitoring: Honorlock App Now an Option for Instructors

A student wearing headphones attends an online class.
Learning Systems has enabled the Honorlock App as additional functionality for instructors already using Honorlock. If instructors use this option, students will be asked to download and install a separate app. The app runs in the background while students take their Honorlock-enabled exams using Chrome with the Honorlock Extension enabled.

The Honorlock App will block a broader range of desktop applications than BrowerGuard alone. This can include AI-based apps that students may have installed on their computers as study aids.

Like the rest of Honorlock, the Honorlock app has its limitations. Instructors should still watch ALL recordings to ensure that course policy is followed.

  • Some applications that are native to the student's device may not be fully blocked,
  • BrowserGuard functionality may not block all browser capabilities.

We are working on creating TLRC guides for the app. Until they are complete, you can reference Honorlock publications:the Honorlock Application-Test taker experience  and the Honorlock Application- Teacher guide.

Reminder: Honorlock is not intended for in-person exams. Continue using Respondus Lockdown Browser for those exams. Also, if you have not been using Honorlock exams throughout the semester (i.e.; it's not on your syllabus) a final exam would not be the best time to introduce Honorlock.
