OTDI will begin adding an “archived” label to CarmenCanvas courses from previous semesters to help instructors more easily identify current courses that must be made accessible. The “archived” label will be added during autumn break starting the evening of Oct. 15, 2025. All past courses should appear with the “archived” label by Oct. 17.
CarmenCanvas will remain operational throughout the process. Content in archived courses will remain available in a read-only state. Instructors may contact the Learning Systems support team to have colleagues added to an archived course for research or reference purposes.
Archived courses created before April 24, 2026, are exempt from accessibility requirements. Any content that is copied from an archived course to use in a new course must be checked for accessibility and made accessible before being published.
The “archived” label will only be applied to academic courses. All non-academic courses in Carmen used to convey information or interact with students or employees will need to be made accessible. More information about ensuring the accessibility of course material will be forthcoming.
The “archived” label will continue to be applied to courses in the future after the incomplete date for each term has passed. Learning Systems is beginning to work on a course retention/removal plan for CarmenCanvas. Thoughtful removal of older courses will improve system performance and course findability, and aligns with the university records retention policy.
