  • LMS Scanning Tool RFP Now Open

    The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) is leading a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an accessibility scanning tool to be integrated within the CarmenCanvas learning management system (LMS) and other Canvas instances. This application will enhance digital accessibility initiatives to improve accessibility to course content led by the ADA Digital Accessibility Center and OTDI's Digital Accessibility Services.
  • Canvas Update - Permalink for Discussion Entries

    In Discussions, each reply includes a copyable permalink allowing users to share a direct link to that specific reply. If the reply is part of a thread, the thread will expand to reveal it. The activity progress values for items in the Gradebook, marked as Started and In Progress are updated. These statuses no longer trigger the Needs Grading icon in the Gradebook.
  • Autumn 2025 Courses are Now Available

    Course shells for Autumn 2025 academic courses are now available!

    Instructors can find their academic course shells on their Carmen Landing Page or by using the Aegis platform. Check under the "Manage Courses" card. 

  • Buckeye UX (BUX) Theme Coming to CarmenCanvas May 1

    As part of a larger initiative to create a cohesive digital experience at Ohio State, the Buckeye UX (BUX) theme will be applied to CarmenCanvas on May 1. Functionality for the learning management system will remain the same, but the look and feel will shift to the BUX style.
  • Generate Academic Courses in Aegis

    The ability for instructors to generate academic courses in CarmenCanvas has moved to Aegis. This is the last of the suite of instructor tools that have been moved to Aegis, our updated platform for managing Learning Systems tools.

  • Aegis Final Grades Transfer

    Instructors will now be able to transfer their final grades through the Aegis platform. This feature can be found by navigating to aegis.osu.edu and clicking the "Final Grades" card. 

    The classic method found on the CarmenCanvas Landing Page will still be available for first session grades. 

  • CarmenCanvas Rubrics Improvements

    Instructors now have the option to use a set of improvements for creating and using rubrics to assess assignments in CarmenCanvas.

    These improvements make it easier to create, edit, and reorganize rubrics when they are created by clicking on Rubrics in the course navigation. The interface for creating rubrics within an assignment will remain the same.

    When using rubrics to grade assignments in Speedgrader, instructors can switch between traditional, horizontal, and vertical layouts.  Other functionality related to rubrics is unchanged.

  • Canvas: New AI-based tools for Instructors

    Instructors have access to 2 new AI-based tools in their Carmen courses. 

    Once enabled as a feature option, the Discussion Summary option allows an instructor to request a summary of a particular discussion thread. Instructors may also ask specific questions about the thread's content. Currently, there is a limit of 25 summary generations per user per day. This feature is only visible to the instructor role.

  • Turnitin Confirmed as Ohio State’s Enterprise Anti-Plagiarism Tool

    In Spring 2024, a committee of faculty and staff recommended that Ohio State continue use of Turnitin Feedback Studio, an anti-plagiarism tool integrated with CarmenCanvas.
