Next Round of Workstation Updates Begin 8/20

The next round of software updates are now available to install for OCIO-managed workstations via Software Center (for Windows PC) or Ohio State Application Self Service (for Mac).

The IT Service Desk will remotely deploy these updates on Friday, August 20 which will require you to restart your machine and/or close applications. You can make these updates at your convenience prior to Friday via your appropriate software update application to avoid interruptions that could occur from an automatic update.

What to expect if you do not update in advance: 

Windows PC users will begin receiving prompts to reboot on Friday, August 20 if your device is turned on and you are logged in. Windows users can delay the reboot for up to 24 hours. 

Mac users begin receiving prompts to reboot on Tuesday, August 24 and can delay reboot until receiving a final notification on Friday, August 27. At that time, you will have 60 minutes to reboot. After the end of 60 minutes, your Mac will reboot automatically. Mac users will receive specific application updates separately (e.g. Adobe, Microsoft Office products). These are currently available in Ohio State Application Self Service. If you do not update by Friday, August 27, a pop-up dialogue box will appear the next time you open the app. You will have 60 minutes to close and reopen the app before being forced to do so.  

These timelines can change depending on when you turn on and log in to your device.

*Note: Updates and patching may occur outside of this window when software/applications have a security issues that need to be addressed immediately.
