What’s new with RAE, Tableau and Collibra - Summer 2020

The OCIO Data and Analytics group continues to refine and improve the tools and processes it provides to Ohio State for the purpose of analyzing enterprise data—the data generated from university administrative functions (finance and supply chain, student information, human resources, payroll, and grants).

This update shares the latest developments for our current toolset:

  • Reporting and Analytics Environment (RAE) – where data is stored for extended analytics
  • Tableau – the data visualization tool that helps extract information from approved datasets
  • Collibra – the data catalog which centralizes how we store and find information on available data assets

RAE:

In RAE production, we’re now serving up Salesforce Student Recruiting data and Facilities Space Information and Management System (SIMS) data as core datasets, which are refreshed daily.

In the RAE test environment, we’re continuing to add more data in preparation for the January 2021 Workday go-live, which includes the datasets listed below and more:

  • Employee Analytics
  • Finance Data Warehouse
  • GL Analytics
  • PeopleSoft Finance and HR data
  • Workday

We continue to partner with data analysts around campus and help them acclimate to the RAE in preparation for the January Workday go-live. We are also working with Enterprise Security to establish faculty and staff RAE security roles and assignments.

Tableau:

We’re deploying Tableau reports and data sources in test mode to assist in RAE-based report development in time for Workday release 1.

Other items currently in development include additional RAE-based reports and data load modules for both historical and live/refreshed datasets.

Collibra:

Our Data Governance group is in the process of implementing the new Collibra data catalog tool. This work includes completing test loads of Workday and Tableau reports and RAE dataset metadata.

We’re also establishing the new data domain structure and data stewardship models. Additionally, we’ll be partnering with Enterprise Security to establish Collibra security roles and assignments for faculty and staff.
