Susan Hatfield, Executive Assistant in the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI), has been named a recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Staff Award at The Ohio State University. With nearly three decades of dedicated service to the university, Hatfield is recognized for her exceptional professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to supporting faculty, staff, and senior leadership across the campus.

For over 29 years, Hatfield has played a vital role in the OTDI, serving nine Chief Information Officers and becoming a trusted and indispensable team member. Her colleagues describe her as the "glue" that keeps operations running smoothly - someone who is always one step ahead, anticipating the needs of others and creating a warm, welcoming environment for all.

“Susan's unwavering commitment, coupled with her infectious positivity and quiet leadership, makes her an invaluable asset to our team,” said Susan Hurst, Executive Assistant to two OTDI chiefs. “She demonstrates excellence in everything she does—whether she's organizing a large Big Ten meeting or simply sharing best practices to make her colleagues’ days easier.”

Hatfield’s impact goes far beyond her job description. From orchestrating major university events to navigating complex administrative tasks with ease, she consistently models care, compassion, and integrity. She’s known for managing competing priorities with patience and grace - often while balancing significant personal responsibilities, including caregiving for a loved one with stage 4 cancer.

“Her ability to maintain exceptional performance at work while supporting her family through incredibly difficult times is nothing short of inspiring,” said Marty Winders, Director of Endpoint Engineering. “Susan is the heart of our team - always ready to listen, encourage, and lend a helping hand.”

Hatfield’s proactive approach to problem-solving and keen attention to detail have earned her a sterling reputation within OTDI and across the university. Whether she’s coordinating logistics with the OSU Faculty Club, processing requisitions in Workday, or simply offering a smile and kind word, her presence fosters a culture of inclusion, respect, and excellence.

“Susan doesn’t seek the spotlight - but her work speaks volumes,” added Winders. “She embodies the best of Ohio State’s Shared Values.”

In recognition of her outstanding service and impact, Hatfield will be celebrated alongside other recipients at the university’s annual Distinguished Staff Awards luncheon, where she will receive a $1,500 award and commemorative plaque.
