Update Devices to Avoid KRACK Vulnerability

Are your computers, smartphones and tablets up to date? If you’ve been hitting snooze on the latest update, now is the time to let your device patch itself.

Recently, a security vulnerability called KRACK (Key Reinstallation AttaCKs) was released. This vulnerability makes it possible for malicious attackers to interfere with the way your device connects to the internet, meaning hackers could view your internet traffic and infect your device with malware.

What do you need to do on campus?

The “osuwireless” and “eduroam” networks were patched on Sunday, October 15, but individual devices must be patched as well to fully mitigate the vulnerability. Contact your local IT staff to be sure patches are scheduled for your department’s devices.

What about personal devices and my network at home?

Many updates have been made available to remediate this vulnerability. We recommend checking this page frequently for updates to your devices and installing updates promptly, when available. Patches should be applied to all of your devices, including Wi-Fi routers, mobile phones, tablets, laptops and other connected devices (such as smart home devices).
