Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

How can I get to the My Buckeye Link page?

My Buckeye Link is accessible via buckeyelink.osu.edu. Log in using your OSU Username (lastname.#) and Password.

What password do I use to access My Buckeye Link?

Enter the same password you use for your Ohio State username (lastname.#). If you have not activated your Ohio State username, go to my.osu.edu to do this. From then on, you will then be able to use the "Forgot your password" link if you do forget your password. For questions, troubleshooting or to reset your password, contact the IT Service Desk.

What information is available via My Buckeye Link in the SIS?

My Buckeye Link allows you access to class searches and class details, academic information, student financial aid, account information including billing and payments, Holds, any To Do lists (used, for example, by Student Financial Aid, to list the documentation needed to complete an application), the weekly schedule and contact information.

What do I do if when I try to open a page in My Buckeye Link, nothing happens?

You may have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer. If so, you don't have to turn off the pop-up blocker; you just have to configure it to allow pop-ups for this particular site. Internet Explorer has a default pop-up blocker that often interferes with SIS; click the yellow information bar at the top of the page and select Always Allow from the pop-up menu. Other browsers and toolbar add-ons may include their own pop-up blockers; most have a convenient method to add trusted sites.

How can I open multiple tabs or windows in SIS?

Multiple tabs/windows are not supported in self-service pages (including the My Buckeye Link and Faculty Center).

How do I search for courses or classes that meet General Education (GE) Requirements?

Use the Course Attribute and Course Attribute Value search fields (expand the Additional Search Criteria section to view them in Class Search). Look up and select "GEC" as the Course Attribute and then look up and select the appropriate requirement ("Historical Survey", "Literature", etc.) as the Course Attribute Value. Note that GE Requirements vary across different majors and colleges, so make sure you verify your choices with your advisor or college office. Refer to the My Buckeye Link Reference Guide for more information on Course Search, and Class Search.

I'm viewing the wrong term. How do I switch terms?

Many functions begin with a Select Term window that limits your current view to a specific term. Many pages have a "Change Institution or Term" button that allows you to easily select a different term, or you can return to the My Buckeye Link page and navigate back to the function where you began, so you can select a different term.

How do I get help with SIS?

There are many resources available to provide support for SIS:

  • Questions regarding financial aid or your student account should be directed to Buckeye Link at 614-292-0300 or buckeyelink@osu.edu
  • If you need help with course registration or prerequisites, contact your academic advisor or college advising office. For instructions on how to view your advisor within My Buckeye Link, refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: View Advisor Information.
  • If you have technical problems with the My Buckeye Link itself, contact the IT Service Desk.

Enrollment

Can I line up my classes in my Shopping Cart ahead of time and then enroll in them all at once when my enrollment appointment opens?

The Shopping Cart is not available until your enrollment appointment opens.

Do I have to add all my classes at once, or can I do them one at a time so I have a better chance of getting in before they fill up?

You can add your classes individually or as a group.

How can I see all the class availabilities (e.g. number of seats available) at once in the SIS?

SIS displays the Status indicator in the initial Class Search Results ; this informs you whether a class is Open, Closed, or Waitlisted. To see the number of seats available, select Section to view the Class Details. Refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: Search for a Class for more information on enrolling in classes.

How do I know if a class is open, waitlisted or closed?

Each class links to a Class Detail page that includes a Status indicator with a color code. The Status indicator indicates whether a class is open (green circle), waitlisted (yellow triangle) or closed (blue square). Refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: Enroll in Classes/Add a Class for more information on enrolling for classes.

How do I know my position on the waitlist?

Go to your Class Schedule and click Show Waitlisted Classes. There you will see the classes for which you are wait listed and your position in each. Once you have been enrolled into a waitlisted course an email will be sent to your Ohio State lastname.# email account.

I don't have an enrollment appointment. What should I do?

Contact your college office to help determine why you do not have an enrollment appointment (scheduling window).

What do the symbols mean when I try to add a class?

A green check mark indicates the class was successfully added and the red X indicates the class was not added.

When I search for a class, I see all sections of that class (Recitation, Lecture, Lab, etc.). How do I know which one to enroll in? How can I tell which Recitation goes with which Lecture)?

Component types (lecture, lab, recitation) are linked.  Selecting one will auto enroll you in the other corresponding components. If you must separately select a component related to your initial selection, you will be prompted to do so.

Associated components are grouped together when the class search results are returned.  You can confirm your selection in the next enrollment step, where all components are listed.  Refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: Search for a Class for more information on enrolling in classes.

Why do only 3 classes show up when I search for classes?

This is a system default; click View All Sections in the blue header bar of the Class Search Results to see all sections that match your search criteria. You may also scroll through the results by using the left and right arrows. Refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: Search for a Class for more information on enrolling in classes.

Why won't the SIS let me see all classes in a department at the same time?

It is not possible to search the SIS for all classes in a department when the number of "hits" exceeds 300. You can set broad limits by searching for classes greater than / equal to a certain number (i.e. all classes at or above the 4000 level) or less than / equal to a given number (i.e. all classes at or below the 3000 level). Refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: Search for a Class for more information on searching for classes.

What is the deadline for my Student Health Insurance to be paid? Will my coverage be dropped if I don't pay by that date?

The deadline to complete the annual Student Health Insurance selection/waiver process is published on the Student Health Insurance website under General Information, Rates and Dates. The deadline for payment of all fees, including Student Health Insurance, is typically seven days before the 1st day of classes (see the Registrar's Academic Calendar for details). After the fee payment deadline, the Office of the University Bursar will follow standard procedures to pursue payment of your past-due account. Coverage is not automatically dropped for non-payment of the health insurance fee, however coverage may be dropped for non-payment of tuition fees.

Additional Topics

I completed the admission condition on my To Do List, but it is still there. Why?

Admission conditions will be marked as complete in the Student Records Milestone section after which the To Do List item is removed. This process occurs once per term.

I have a form to waive requisites, time conflicts, etc. What do I do now?

You should take the signed form to your college office for posting after your enrollment appointment has started.

I have instructor permission for a class. Can I take that to my college office for posting prior to my enrollment appointment opening?

No, you cannot have permission pre-posted. You will need to take your form to your college office after your enrollment appointment has opened. If you have questions about the process in your college, contact your advisor. For instructions on how to view your advisor within the My Buckeye Link page, refer to My Buckeye Link Reference Guide: View Advisor Information.

I received an error message when I registered but the message doesn't give much information. How do I know what it really means?

Read the message closely. Often, the class detail can help you to understand the requisites and other requirements you need to meet before you can enroll in the course. If you have questions regarding this error you may work with your college office.
