How to View and Clear Holds on My Buckeye Link

About Student Account Holds

Administrative holds are placed on student accounts when there is an unresolved issue, such as an unpaid balance, overdue fine, or outstanding university requirement. A hold may prevent you from accessing services like class registration, grades, or diplomas until the issue is resolved.

To avoid delays in receiving services, address any holds on your account as soon as possible. Some holds, particularly financial holds, can prevent you from registering for classes.
 

1. Navigate to buckeyelink.osu.edu and click My Buckeye Link in the Quick Links section at the top right of the page to log into your student account. Use your Ohio State name.# and password as your log-in credentials.
2.  Click the To Do Items and Holds tile, then choose Holds from the left sidebar menu. 
3. Click into each Hold to view details about it. 

In most cases, you cannot remove an account hold yourself – action by university personnel will be required. Each hold’s details include instructions about how to clear the hold and who to contact to assist.
 

The following holds are most common, but other holds may be added to your account. Click on the hold to view additional details about it. 

• Registration Lock – prevents enrollment until the Financial Responsibility Statement has been signed. This is the only hold you can lift yourself – complete the corresponding Financial Responsibility Statement To-Do List item. 
• Refund Hold – your refund is being held pending review by an administrative office. Review the hold details to learn which office set the hold and how to contact them for more information about why your refund is being held. 
• Financial Hold – All Services – used most frequently when your account has a past due balance. Prevents registration and receipt of diploma until the balance has been resolved.
• Past Due Account in Workday – used when you owe money to a department or unit at the university for something other than tuition and fees (for example, overdue library books or a visit to the Student Health Center). Prevents registration and receipt of diploma until the balance is resolved. 
• Financial Hold – Bad Debt – your balance has been written off as a bad debt and transferred to the Office of the Ohio Attorney General for additional collections attempts. Balance must be paid in full to the Attorney General before the hold can be lifted. 
• Schedule Lock – All Actions – used by your college of enrollment. Contact them for details about why the hold was set and how to clear it. 
• All Registrar Services Hold – used for a variety of purposes to prevent services. Most often, you’ll see it if you need to see your advisor before scheduling classes or if you owe money to CampusParc for outstanding parking citations.
