Web Transformation

This effort is comprised of several key items:

  1. Continue to enhance the OTDI Drupal distribution.
  2. Transition Drupal 7 sites to Drupal 9/10 by January 2025.
  3. Collaborate with university web leaders to create and implement a new Web Policy.
  4. Grow the BUX tool for use across the university.
  5. Within OTDI, collaborate with the Applications team to develop a plan to transition remaining websites from Applications to MarComm.
  6. Collaborate with relationship managers on MITS 2.0 billing for web services.

What strategic pillars does it support?

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Outreach
  • Administrative Excellence
  • Culture of Belonging

Why is it important?

Consolidating our OTDI web support into our standard Drupal distribution will have several important effects: address digital accessibility, branding and security needs, standardize web support within OTDI, and being able to address the significant web needs of the university by providing a simple web service that meets the needs of the university community.

Who will benefit?

Within OTDI, applications team members will be able to remove something from their portfolio and there will be clearer roles and responsibilities.

Within the university, there is a huge demand for web services across the university. Faculty, staff, and students will benefit from a more streamlined and consistent web presence. Departments will benefit from reduced costs vs. paying 3rd party vendors to develop and maintain websites.

What is the timeline?

  • Drupal 7 Transition: Ongoing through January 2025
  • Web Policy: In progress, planning to complete in February 2024
  • MITS 2.0 billing: In progress, complete by June 2024
  • Plan for Applications site transitions: Complete plan by May 2024
  • Distribution and BUX enhancements are ongoing

Who are our partners and sponsors?

The bulk of this work will be a partnership between the OTDI Web and Design team (led by Moe Buckley) and individual site owners within business areas (OAA, B&F, A&P, University Marketing, etc).

What other OTDI groups will be needed?

  • Application Services (Sanbe)

How will success be measured?

  • # Drupal sites migrated from 7 to 9/10
  • Web policy approved
  • % BUX tool adoption
  • # sites transitioned from Apps to Web and Design
  • Billing method implemented
