Why is it important?

The Teams Voice project will upgrade and streamline our voice communications by replacing our current telephone system (Skype for Business) with a modern cloud-based service. The Teams Voice solution provides many new enhanced voice capabilities that are integrated into the current set of Teams collaboration tools we use today.

Teams Voice includes the following additional features over the current solution: enhanced audio CODEC’s for improved sound quality, enhanced video collaboration, live streaming, enhanced mobile apps for calls on the go, improved screen sharing, improved E911 location for emergency services, and enhanced Office 365 application integration and collaboration.

This work while modernizing our telephony infrastructure is also needed to replace the current system which will reach its end of life in 2025.  This work also allows for cost avoidance by reducing the amount of physical hardware needed to run the current service, ongoing administration overhead. We can use license features we already purchased to offset costs.
