Digital Flagship brings the annual opportunity to visit Apple’s Cupertino headquarters for a three-day session with their app design experts. This year a team of Ohio State students, researchers, administrators and developers visited Cupertino to conceptualize an app to support student mental health.

From professors to advisors, from support staff to students, attendees had the opportunity to learn first-hand from Digital Flagship Educators. New for 2018, the Innovate Faculty Showcase also included the voice of students.

This winter a group of students, staff and developers from Ohio State visited Apple’s Enterprise Design Lab to develop the framework for an app that would help incoming students transition to college. The app, called ‘Discover’, is now available in the app store and is downloaded automatically on to all iPads distributed through Digital Flagship.
The Drake Union is bustling, full of incoming first-year students and their families arriving for their first day of orientation. This year, the already-exciting day includes another first for new Buckeyes: students and staff in brightly colored Digital Flagship shirts, guiding them through picking up their new iPad Pro and setting up the device, Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil.
This fall, more than 10,000 first-year students will arrive at all five campuses of The Ohio State University with a common set of technology. In May, 78 instructors participated in the first Digital Flagship Educators cohort to learn, collaborate and develop courses that will leverage that new common toolset. Digital Flagship Educators is the instructor-facing component of the broader initiative and strives to establish a connected and supported community of practice among those who teach at Ohio State.
