This year marks the 3-year anniversary of Ohio State’s Tableau implementation. The Data and Analytics team surveyed leaders and stakeholders in January to gather data about Ohio State’s last three years of Tableau use. The OTDI Data and Analytics team has officially retired the eReports and BuckIQ reporting systems and the supporting legacy data warehouses. It’s important to acknowledge this milestone and the dedication put forth by OTDI and reporting teams across campus in providing these data and reporting services for over a decade!
On Sunday, January 2, 2022, we will transition the core database and query engine for the Reporting and Analytics Environment (RAE) to a new type of Amazon Redshift server cluster . The new cluster will enable us to expand our data store to as much as 64 terabytes of data, while providing the same or better query performance and enabling operational cost savings. This change will be transparent to any analyst or system that utilizes the RAE. No changes in connectivity settings are needed. Server endpoints, usernames, passwords, and other information that you use to connect to the RAE will not change.
As shared in October , progress continues on the retirement of the legacy reporting systems tied to PeopleSoft HR and Finance, and will be complete at the end of calendar year 2021. In preparation for the shutdown, multiple activities have been completed or are ongoing to ensure that business and data analysts will have access to legacy data as needed. The first Tableau User Group (TUG) meeting for the 2021/2022 academic year will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. via zoom. Registration is required . Sarah Murphy, Liana Crisan-Vandeborne, and Tim Byrne will provide a developer's Tableau Refresh workshop, reviewing how to create basic and specialty charts and apply tools from the analytics pane.
Remaining activities for the university's Workday rollout include the retirement and shutdown of PeopleSoft data sources, BuckeyeOasis tools, and eReports and BuckIQ reporting services. Beginning November 1, access to these systems will be restricted to a small group of core users prior to system shutdown on December 31, 2021. The Tableau data visualization tool allows users to quickly create visual representations of data through interactive dashboards. During the upcoming October 13 "Introduction to Tableau for Data Visualization" workshop, attendees will learn how to start using Tableau and gain a foothold into harnessing the power of their data. Interested Ohio State faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate student researchers can check out the full post to see the agenda of topics and obtain registration information.
