OCIO COMPUTER STANDARDS

OCIO has designed computer standards to meet the needs of our Managed IT customers. We update the standards below at least annually. We consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis (e.g. control systems for expensive instruments that cannot be upgraded).

Operating Systems

  • Windows 10 is the current OCIO Windows standard.
  • Apple MacOS Mojave (10.14) and MacOS High Sierra (10.13) are currently supported by the OCIO.
  • We do not support older operating systems per Information Security Control Requirements 0F1.

Alternative Option for Power Users

A power user is a university employee who runs applications that need a large amount of memory or additional processing speed.  Examples of this could be (a) extensive/large data processing at the local machine level, (b) advanced calculations, and/or (c) applications too large or complex to run on one of the recommended workstations.  A power user is not someone who needs to store a large number of files on their machine; the file share and cloud storage options noted above are secure alternatives available for file storage.
