Before the summer break starts, use this overview of upcoming or current teaching and learning technology projects to make sure you know what to expect in the fall.
Simple Syllabus
Links to Simple Syllabus now appear in all courses in CarmenCanvas in preparation for autumn. To practice with summer courses or work ahead for fall, when syllabi are required for undergraduate courses, get started by visiting the Simple Syllabus page in the Teaching and Learning Resource Center. The Office of Faculty Affairs website contains policy information and expectations for instructors.
Three more workshops are scheduled before autumn classes.
New CarmenCanvas Landing Page
Carmen.osu.edu is getting a new look this summer. You can already opt to use the new interface when you visit to log in and view your courses. The updated site will become the default during the summer.
Digital Accessibility
While the U.S. Department of Justice has announced a one‑year extension of the compliance deadline for the ADA Title II digital accessibility rule, instructional staff should continue their work to bring digital materials into compliance with the law and Ohio State’s Digital Accessibility Policy. The law remains in effect; this change only applies to the enforcement deadline. There are tools available from Ohio State to assist in meeting accessibility standards.
Ally
The Ally accessibility tool is available in Carmen to help instructors bring courses into compliance with accessibility requirements.
PDF Remediation Tool
A PDF remediation tool is now available from OTDI to reduce the manual lift of updating PDFs when other alternative formats are not possible. This tool requires units to agree to its cost recovery model and may not be available for your unit; please consult with your department leaders about access.
Mediasite Archive
OTDI will begin enforcing the Mediasite retention policy to manage storage costs and more easily identify media content that must be made accessible per federal Title II regulations. Beginning mid-May, Mediasite content that has not been viewed in five years will be archived for one year before being permanently deleted.
During the archival period, recordings will display a “Presentation Offline” label and an archive tag within the user’s My Mediasite portal. Users who need to retrieve archived content prior to the deletion date can restore archived presentations from My Mediasite. Following the initial process in May, archiving will take place on a rolling, daily basis. Be on the lookout for more information.
