Privacy Principles connect university values with privacy regulations to make it easier for the university community to understand and implement Ohio State's privacy practices.

Our Privacy Principles

1. We provide notice that explains how we collect, use and share personal information. We don’t use it for other purposes.
2. We provide and honor choices when collecting personal information for a marketing purpose.
3. We make it easy for individuals to access and request corrections to their personal information.
4. We implement new technologies using privacy-by-design.
5. We secure personal information and investigate reports of unauthorized or inappropriate access to personal information.
6. We create, educate and lead best practices and compliance across our communities.

In addition to the overarching principles that guide Privacy at Ohio State, the program has established specific guidelines for student analytics and youth privacy. These guidelines acknowledge the special sensitivity of this data and the profound responsibility Ohio State has in ensuring its protection and ethical use.

• Student Analytics Principles - to provide guidelines on how to properly collect, analyze and report information about students for the purpose of understanding and optimizing student success and experiences and the contexts in which they occur.
• Youth Privacy Principles - to provide guidelines to youth programs on protecting the privacy of youth who are entrusted to the university’s care.
