Ohio Sales Tax Holiday August 7–9

The Ohio Department of Taxation has announced a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday from 12:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Qualifying items that may be purchased tax-free include:

  • Clothing priced at $75 or less per item
  • School supplies priced at $20 or less per item
  • School instructional materials priced at $20 or less per item

For additional information, FAQs, and guidance, visit the Ohio Department of Taxation's Sales Tax Holiday webpage.

During the holiday, earnings units should treat qualifying sales as non-taxable and should not add sales tax to invoices or point-of-sale transactions. It is important to note that unlike the expanded 2025 Sales Tax Holiday, the 2026 exemption is limited to specific back-to-school items meeting the price thresholds above. As a result, qualifying sales are expected to be limited for most earnings operations.
