Earlier this month, Ohio State students, faculty, and staff participated in the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) Love Data Week event.
Event highlights include 8 sessions conducted for Love Data Week 2024, 12 campuses in participation, 561 individuals in attendance, and 1,400 votes cast for the BTAA Love Data Week Viz Champion.
The university was well represented this year, as you'll see in the full post which lists participating Ohio State colleauges, many of them also listed in the BTAA Honorable Mentions gallery .

The international Love Data Week event is a means of celebrating “all things data” and seeks to bring people together to share their data experiences, learn data visualization best practices, and have fun during the process. The Flexible Payroll Expense Data report allows users to customize worktags for payroll expenses. The tableau report interface for the custom worktag selection will be enhanced to improve the end user experience. Instead of users selecting the "select column" icon from the top right of the report, now all the column selections will appear above the column’s headings and will remain displayed. A recording of the Tableau Server Fundamentals training is now available on demand in BuckeyeLearn . Users can search for “ Tableau Server Fundamentals ” in BuckeyeLearn and take the class at their own pace. This course covers the fundamentals of Tableau Server – navigation, subscriptions, saving report parameters, and sharing data and is intended for anyone who uses Tableau Server.
A secondary payroll expense detail report has been made available in Tableau to allow users a more customizable experience when interacting with Payroll Data.
Flexible Payroll Expense Details - a customizable grouping payroll expense report with two worksheets.
Flexible Cumulative Payroll Actuals and Encumbrances - provides customizable journal attribute grouping and returns a year-to-date total spend based on parameters selected in the prompt as well associated remaining encumbrances Flexible Monthly Payroll Actuals - provides customizable journal attribute grouping based on periods selected in the prompt.
Reporting users have shared that sporadic data is missing from Tableau reports using the “ [CERTIFIED] Workday FIN Mart - Journal Line Detail ” Tableau data source. This data source is powered by journal line related datasets flowing into the Reporting and Analytics Environment (RAE) from Workday. T he reload/update of the journal lines data in the RAE is expected to be complete by August 24, 2022.
The OTDI Tableau team is pleased to announce the launch of our first training, Tableau Server Fundamentals. This live, 45-minute zoom webinar is intended for anyone who accesses Tableau reports on the university’s server. At the end of training, attendees will learn how to navigate Tableau Server as well as how to set up subscriptions to regularly monitor data, create and save report parameters, and share data.
