Approved Institutional Definitions

Gifts that are available for immediate use and intended to provide short-term support for the university subject to the criteria agreed to by the donor and the university.

A student who is not a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or a person who has been granted asylum.

Degree-seeking first year students without prior postsecondary experience who are new to Ohio State.

A United States resident, not from Ohio.

A student who is a legal resident of Ohio.

The percentage of students from the summer/autumn cohort of new first year students who earned a baccalaureate degree at Ohio State before Autumn of the seventh year after their cohort term.

Number of students in an undergraduate class section.

Percentage of admitted students who enrolled. Calculated by dividing the number of enrolled students by the number of admitted students.

For required reporting, legal sex is defined as the sex indicated on government documents (e.g., state photo identification). Legal sex may differ from sex assigned at birth, gender identity and/or gender expression.

Pronouns are used to refer to individuals in the third person. Examples include she/her, he/him, ze/zir, they/them. Pronouns are chosen by an individual and may differ from their legal sex.

The campus where a student is taking the majority of their course hours at the term’s enrollment census date.

A degree-seeking student who has been enrolled on more than one campus of record.

A student who is taking courses for credit and is pursuing a degree/certificate.

For an undergraduate, full-time enrollment is 12 credit hours per term. A graduate/professional student must typically take 8 credit hours per semester to be full-time.

Usage note: post-candidacy dissertation students are considered full-time with 3 credit hours.

A student who holds at least a bachelor's degree or above and is taking courses at the post-baccalaureate level. These students may or may not be pursuing graduate degree(s) or program(s).

An undergraduate student enrolled in 6-8.99 hours and graduate/professional student enrolled in 4-5.99 hours.

An undergraduate student enrolled in 0 to 5.99 hours and graduate/professional student enrolled in 0 to 3.99 hours.

An individual pursuing a learning opportunity for personal enrichment or to enhance their professional skills and knowledge but does not include coursework bearing academic credit.

A student pursuing an undergraduate degree for the first time after high school completion.

A student pursuing an undergraduate certificate for the first time after high school completion.

A student who is auditing or taking credit-bearing courses but is not pursuing a degree(s) or program(s).

A student taking fewer credits than full-time.

A student who is pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Juris Doctor (JD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Optometry (OD), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).

Rank 1 identifies any undergraduate student who has earned fewer than 30 hours of credit completed and recorded by the university.

Rank 2 identifies any undergraduate student who has earned 30 or more and fewer than 60 hours of credit completed and recorded by the university.

Rank 3 identifies any undergraduate student who has earned 60 or more and fewer than 90 hours of credit completed and recorded by the university.

Rank 4 identifies any undergraduate student who has earned 90 or more hours of credit completed and recorded by the university.

An undergraduate student enrolled in 9-11.99 hours and graduate/professional student enrolled in 6-7.99 hours.

A degree-seeking student who is attending Ohio State after previously attending another institution at the post-secondary level.

A student who has prior postsecondary experience attending any institution that enrolls at Ohio State pursuing a standalone certificate.

A student who holds at least a high school degree or equivalent and is taking courses at the baccalaureate level. These students may or may not be pursuing undergraduate degree(s) or program(s).
