At the end of the autumn semester, Ohio State will enter Phase 2 of its New Quizzes adoption plan, making New Quizzes available in all CarmenCanvas courses in SP27. While use of New Quizzes remains optional, we are encouraging instructors and programs to begin actively exploring the tool and determining how they will begin to transition away from Classic Quizzes. We will remain in phase 2 for at least one year, dependent on changes made by the vendor.
New Quizzes offers several advantages that can improve assessment workflows for instructors. Here are a few of the benefits of using New Quizzes:
- Setting SLDS accommodations once that apply to all quizzes for a student for the entire semester
- New question types, including ordering, categorization, and stimulus questions
- Expanded grading options, including partial credit and variable point values
- The ability to align individual quiz questions with course or program outcomes
- Enhanced moderation tools, including allowing students to build on previous attempts
- Printable quizzes that can be saved as PDFs or printed with and without answer keys
- Item Banks that make it easier to organize, manage, and share questions across teaching teams
To support this transition, the Learning Systems team will provide workshops, training opportunities, and resources to help instructors compare Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes, learn key features and best practices of New Quizzes, and begin planning for future adoption.
