We’re making important updates to our email security system to better protect you and the university from phishing and spoofed messages.
Starting on Monday, Oct. 20, instructors, staff and students may notice a banner on incoming emails that fail our security check. These messages won’t be blocked yet, but they will be once the new security policy takes effect on Jan. 30.

What this means for you:
- You’ll see a warning banner on emails that don’t pass security checks.
- The transition period – between Oct. 20 and Jan. 30 – gives you time to adjust and report any issues before filtering begins.
The banner will appear on messages that fail security checks based on the sender’s Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policy– a standard that helps verify that an email really comes from the stated sender.
OTDI is here to help! If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the IT Service Desk by phone: 614-688-4357 (HELP) or by email ServiceDesk@osu.edu.
Look for this new security to begin blocking messages on Jan. 30, 2026. Thank you for helping us keep our email systems secure.
