OTDI Container Services

The OTDI Container Service is a managed Docker and Kubernetes container platform built to security standards and allows application developers to deliver value faster. Some examples include:

  • Development teams want improved agility and ability to deliver services to their customer faster leveraging immutable architecture design patterns and quicker path to continuous deployment.
  • Development teams want to focus on their core value add and not spend time on servers, storage, load-balancers, container orchestration, and integration with core services like Shibboleth, DUO, and Splunk.
  • Application teams want to quickly standup a highly-available ElasticSearch, Tomcat/Java, and complex orchestrated n-tier microservice or mini apps using modern design pattern.
This service provides:
  • Fully managed highly available container platform running enterprise class Kubernetes service.
  • Prebuilt integration with OSU infrastructure services such as Gitlab and Jenkins.
  • Managed SSL Certificates.
  • Development, Test, and Production environments.
  • Backups and recovery from site more than 25 miles from campus.
  • Dashboard and API access to enable application automation.
  • Container dashboard provided by the delivered Kubernetes dashboard GUI and monitoring provided by Sysdig Monitor.
  • Private git repo services (repo.service.osu.edu).
  • Domain Name Service (DNS) allowing rapid deployment of new services.
  • 30-days of logical backups for shared Network File Storage (NFS) with DR replication.
  • SaaS MySQL platform providing 99.9+% availability leveraging automated fail over to secondary data center.
  • SaaS PostgreSQL platform providing 99.9+% availability leveraging manual failover to secondary data center.
  • SaaS options for standard ElasticSearch and Java/Tomcat deployments.
  • Automated cluster-wide monitoring and notification 24x7.
  • 24x7 Admin support for cluster outage or diminished functionality.
  • Admin support hours for other requests are limited to University Business hours, 8am-5pm, M-F.
  • Database Software patching and upgrades will occur during the automated monthly patching window on Sundays, 5-7am.
  • Advance communication of patch maintenance schedules through Change Management (CABS) and predefined host maintenance schedules provided by ESS (30 Day Patching schedules).
  • One major PostgreSQL upgrade per year (see PostgreSQL: Versioning Policy).
  • On-disk encryption for all data stored on OTDI servers.
