On Nov. 10, Ohio State will join institutions around the world for Fix Your Content Day, a friendly competition focused on improving the accessibility of digital course content.
Faculty and instructors can participate by finding and fixing accessibility issues in their CarmenCanvas courses. Each fix contributes to Ohio State’s place on the global leaderboard while helping build a more accessible learning experience that invites every student into our classes.
The goal is simple: open a course, find an accessibility issue, fix it and keep going. Even small changes can make a meaningful difference.
Where to start
Not sure what to fix first? Try these high-impact options:
- Start with your Course Accessibility Report. Review your Course Accessibility Report and choose an item from the Ally Quick Fix list to begin addressing issues that are easier to correct.
- Add missing image descriptions. Use Ally’s AI alt text assistant to generate suggested alternative text for images. Be sure to review each suggestion for context and accuracy and make edits as needed before saving.
- Check color and color contrast. Use the Accessibility Checker in Carmen’s Rich Content Editor (RCE) to identify and correct color and color contrast issues so your content meets accessibility requirements.
Every fix counts, whether you correct one issue or spend the day improving an entire course. Mark your calendar for Nov. 10 and help Ohio State climb the Fix Your Content Day leaderboard.
