As the university continues to prioritize digital accessibility, the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) is pleased to introduce a new PDF Remediation Tool. This tool is designed to help units improve the accessibility of PDF content more efficiently and at greater scale.
This service builds on successful work already underway at Ohio State. University Libraries and the College of Arts and Sciences have been using this technology effectively, and OTDI has partnered with them to build and extend this application for broader use across the university.
The tool provides an automated first pass at improving document accessibility by identifying and addressing many common issues, returning both an updated PDF and a report showing what was addressed and what may still need manual review.
This gives units a practical way to reduce manual effort and better manage larger volumes of PDF content, while allowing staff to focus their time where review and judgment are most needed. Because this tool uses a cost recovery model, departments will need to coordinate with the Applications team to approve access and billing before staff members can use the PDF Remediation Tool.
