Microsoft has expanded Copilot Premium with the addition of Anthropic AI models, bringing even more powerful reasoning and research capabilities into your Copilot experience. Copilot Premium continues to be the gateway to Microsoft's most advanced AI capabilities; the Anthropic integration is just the beginning of an even smarter, multi-model Copilot experience.
How do I know which version of Copilot I have?
- Copilot Basic: The basic version of Copilot, formerly called Copilot Chat, is paid for by the university and provided to all staff, instructors and students.
- Copilot Premium: Formerly called Microsoft 365 Copilot, is the upgraded version is available for staff and instructors who pay an additional monthly fee for an upgraded license
What's Available Now for Copilot Premium Users
Anthropic's Claude models are currently available within the Researcher agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot:
The Researcher agent can now be powered by Anthropic's Claude in addition to OpenAI's models. Simply open the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, go to Agents > Researcher, and use the model picker to select Claude.
Researcher helps tackle complex, multi-step research — reasoning over the web, trusted third-party data, and all of your work content including emails, chats, meetings, and files.
Coming Soon to Copilot Premium
Additional Anthropic model capabilities are on the way for Copilot Premium users, including:
- Claude Sonnet available directly in Copilot Chat: Users will be able to select Claude models alongside OpenAI models from within the standard Copilot Chat experience.
- Upcoming improvements to the Researcher agent: Researcher will soon include enhanced AI review and multi-model comparison capabilities to improve the quality and depth of research outputs.
