Project Update

The project continued to move forward in November. Five more county extension offices moved to OCIO services in November in addition to an Agricultural Research Station. Visit the CFAES IT Transformation webpage for additional data and project updates.

Columbus Campus

  • OSUnet and Wi-Fi implementation complete in 25 buildings (89% of in scope buildings complete)
  • Moved to OCIO services in November: OSUE Pesticide Education
  • Moving to OCIO services next: FABE, SENR, FST
  • 16 of 25 departments moved to OCIO services

Wooster Campus

  • OSUnet and Wi-Fi implementation complete in 55 buildings (82% of in scope buildings complete)
  • Moving to OCIO services next: FABE, SENR, FAHRP 
  • 23 of 35 departments moved to OCIO services

State-wide Campus

  • OSUnet and Wi-Fi implementation complete in 66 buildings (58% of in scope buildings complete)
  • Moved to OCIO services in November: Belmont, Preble, Darke, Richland, Eastern Ag Research, Henry
  • Moving to OCIO services next: Noble
  • Planning kicked off with the following counties: North Central Agricultural Research Station, Noble, Crawford, Morrow
  • 55 of 104 departments moved to OCIO services

CFAES IT Team Progress

The CFAES IT team is working on a variety of projects including research, web and application support. Below are some highlights from November.

CFAES IT Team Progress

  • Advancement – Extended subscription email module to support CFAES Stories, consulted with Communications team on adjustments to the CFAES Website and identified a team to meet regularly to work on a collaboration with communications priorities.  Developed module for tagging and reporting on content created by the communications team based on target audiences and mission areas.  Worked with Communications on the college holiday email.
  • ANS – Completed Inventory of research computers. SCR DataFlow II risk assessment for the mobile cloud connect data completed. CRIO Online risk assessment approved and being implemented. Performed system reset on digital signage kiosk to correct display problems. 
  • ATI - Migrating StudentAccess data to the web portal and cloud storage setup. Onboarded new manager of digital signage in SAC.
  • Extension – Integrated external Extension Publications website allowing their publications to be searched from any college website. Launchpad cloud application approved and successfully migrated from the old system to support Home Buyer Education program in Franklin County. Working on risk assessment for Master Gardner Volunteer System and evaluating future options for hosting. Assisted Helping Others Prosper through Economic Empowerment program team to get connected with a third-party app developer to support their grant application.
  • Deans Office – Trained the strategic communications team in the dean’s office to edit the CFAES Website and consulted with them on possible modifications to the sections they maintain.
  • FABE: Collaborative efforts testing various options (including Globus) for efficient transfer method when working with large data sets. Submitted risk assessment for Ag Data Coalition.
  • FAHRP – Developing and implementing scheduling system reserve animal stalls in several research facilities.
  • FST – Set up a new research computer connected to a benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance instrument.
  • HCS- Enabled online publishing of 2019 Corn Performance Trial Data 3 workdays after harvest completed. Collaborative efforts leveraging Guacamole/Jumphost services to remotely access data loggers. Migrated 1 of 3 web servers to OCIO web hosting environment. 
  • Secrest – Migrating Gardenware software to Windows 10 version to phase out current Windows 7 computer.
  • SENR – Completed Inventory of research computers.
  • South Centers – Replacing control board in autosampler saving $3,000. Replacing lighting in aquaponics greenhouse.
