Digital Accessibility Program

This set of initiatives is the next phase in maturing the Digital Accessibility Services program. The goal of the program is to equip Digital Accessibility Coordinators throughout the university to ensure that their unit implements accessible digital products and services. Not only are we tasked to manage the program university-wide, but OTDI must also ensure we follow the program we have set for the university.

What strategic pillars does it support?

  • Teaching
  • Research
  • Outreach
  • Operational Excellence & Innovation
  • Culture and Community

Why is it important?

The purpose of this program is to make our digital space at Ohio State inclusive for people with disabilities. It is also designed to meet our obligation under our Office of Civil Rights Resolution agreement.

Who will benefit?

The program is intended to benefit students, faculty, staff, researchers, and guests with disabilities. However, the benefits are much further reaching. An example – captions improve comprehension for those who speak English as a second language, as well as for those in a noisy environment.

What is the timeline?

  • Accessible Public Websites Project (7/1/23 – 12/31/25)
  • Revise Implement/Upgrade Process (7/1/23 – 3/30/24)
  • DAS Dashboards Redesign (9/1/23 – 6/30/24)
  • Non-Public Website Project (9/1/23 – 12/31/25)
  • Incorporate Accessibility into Central Purchasing Processes (1/1/24 - 6/30/24)
  • Accessible Curriculum Effort (3/1/24 – 12/31/24)

Who are our partners and sponsors?

We partner with Accessibility Coordinators throughout the university and medical center, the ADA Coordinator’s Office, and the BTAA IT Accessibility Group. The effort is championed by the Chief Integrity & Compliance Office who regularly reports on program progress to the University Integrity & Compliance Council.

How will success be measured?

  • # of current public websites remediated
  • #of legacy public websites remediated
  • # of processes for revision
  • # of non-public websites remediated
