OTDI helping bring new AI tools, research capabilities and student experiences to campus
The Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) is playing a key role in a new strategic partnership between The Ohio State University and Google that will expand access to artificial intelligence, strengthen research capabilities and enhance digital experiences for students, faculty and staff. The partnership was announced Sept. 29 and includes investments in research computing, AI-powered services, technology access and AI fluency initiatives across the university.
As Ohio State's technology organization, OTDI will help lead implementation and support efforts for many of the technologies and services included in the partnership. This work aligns with OTDI's mission to provide secure, innovative and scalable digital solutions that advance teaching, learning, research and university operations.
Through the partnership, Ohio State will provide broader access to Google AI technologies, including Gemini Enterprise and Gemini Notebook capabilities available through Google for Education. These tools will support teaching, research and everyday productivity while helping advance the university's AI Fluency initiative.
OTDI is working with university partners to evaluate, deploy and support these technologies, ensuring access is delivered in a way that aligns with institutional priorities, security standards and user needs.
The partnership will provide Ohio State researchers with access to advanced Google AI models, high-performance computing resources and Google DeepMind technologies that can help accelerate scientific discovery across a wide range of disciplines. Researchers will gain access to more than 200 AI models and specialized tools designed to support complex research challenges.
A major focus of the partnership is using AI to create more personalized and accessible experiences for students. Planned initiatives include AI-powered services designed to assist students with academic advising, registrar support, career planning and other key university services.
OTDI will work alongside academic and administrative partners to integrate these technologies into the university's digital ecosystem, helping create a seamless experience from admission through graduation.
