What’s New in Tech for Autumn 2026

Banner that says What's New

Welcome back, Buckeyes! It’s a new academic year, and there are several major technology changes at Ohio State you need to know before classes start.

No More BuckeyeMail

To simplify your email experience, all students are moving to lastname.#@osu.edu email accounts. This means you’ll use the @osu.edu format to log in for all university services, including accessing your university email inbox. Be sure to check your university email often. It’s how you’ll get important information on academics, safety, campus life and more. If you’re having issues logging in with your @osu.edu email, contact the IT Service Desk by calling 614-688-4357.

Scan the Ohio State App to Ride COTA

Riding COTA as an Ohio State student is becoming even easier! When boarding a COTA bus, eligible students can now scan the digital pass in the Ohio State app instead of swiping a BuckID card. Log into the Ohio State app and look for the COTA pass tile on the For You screen.

Tap Readers for BuckID

Readers at buildings and printers across campus are upgrading to tap compatibility. You’ll need a tap-enabled BuckID or a mobile BuckID to use these readers. If you still have a BuckID from years ago, now is the time to trade it in for a newer card (and you’ll have a chance to give your ID photo a glow up).

Wi-Fi Network Upgrades

During network upgrades to Wi-Fi on campus this fall, you’ll be required to update your eduroam authentication for any personal devices. You'll need to update by Oct. 13 to continue to connect to eduroam, the university’s secure wireless network.

Autodesk Single Sign-On

Autodesk now uses Ohio State single sign-on (SSO), so students must sign in with their Ohio State username and password to access Autodesk applications. If your Autodesk account was not linked to your Ohio State email address, you may need to restore access to your files and data, which may require IT Service Desk assistance. You may be prompted to sign in again or request any required licenses directly through Autodesk.
