Connecting Buckeyes Through the Ohio State App

With 98% of undergraduate students logged in and over 89 million screen views in 2025 alone, the Ohio State mobile app has become an essential part of campus life. The app is constantly adding new features that do more to connect Buckeyes to campus and put complex university systems in the palm of their hand.

In 2025, the app’s 213,009 users received new features focused on getting involved and making use of university resources.

The updates included:

  • A "Get Involved" tab: This centralized hub is designed to help users navigate thousands of student organizations and events.
  • Library reservations: A new interface reduced the steps required for the 27,000 study space reservations made last year.
  • Athletics hub: Buckeye fans can follow game schedules, scores, and news for their favorite varsity teams all in one spot.
  • Interactive wayfinding: Attendees at the annual fall involvement fair could follow real-time directions to organizations they were interested in and make a connection right in the app.

Every new feature could be a lifeline for a user just getting started at Ohio State, in the eyes of Chris Fish, a developer for the app in the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI).

“Navigating Ohio State can be intimidating and anxiety-inducing,” Fish said. “We try to put users first, put everything in one place, and make Ohio State accessible for all.”

The OTDI Web and Mobile team behind the Ohio State app devotes thousands of hours each year to creating and launching features that improve the app experience.

“We take in feedback regularly, we talk to students, and we make an effort to engage with partners across the university to find friction points that we can resolve,” Fish said. “We want to make our experience just as good as any commercial app out there.”

In 2026, the app continues to expand the ways it can serve the campus community. With a simplified move-in experience, a digital pass for city buses, and a transit planner for campus buses planned for this year, the future of the app will focus on more ways to make navigating campus easier for students, faculty, and staff.
