Tableau Server Access

Tableau Server is available to the Ohio State community at dataviz.rae.osu.edu.

The Enterprise License for the university’s Tableau Server is licensed and maintained by Ohio State’s Data Visualization team. For information on the Medical Center’s Tableau environment, please contact Jeffrey.Line@osumc.edu.

To obtain access in Tableau,

  1. Complete Institutional Data Policy (IDP) training, available in BuckeyeLearn.
  2. Complete a Tableau Request form in ServiceNow.
    1. Request type: New Account/Access
    2. Project Name: Select the name aligned with your unit; if you do not see a group, select ‘Office of the Chief Information Officer’. c. Role: Select the appropriate role(s). If you are unsure, please consult your Project Leader.

Helpful Note:

  • Groups with ‘Analyst’ are a good starting point for all users.
  • Groups with ‘Developer’ are for those who will have a Tableau Desktop license.
  • If Office of the Chief Information Officer is the group selected, select TAB-RAE-All Users as the role.
  1. If you are using Enterprise data in Tableau, submit a request for Enterprise Data for Analytics Access. Enterprise data refers to institutional data and is used by groups such as Human Resources, Finance, Payroll, Grants, and Physical Space.

Helpful Note:

Reporting access will suffice for most users; direct access is for users writing their own SQL.

*If you are looking for your area's project leader, review the Tableau Project Leader list. If you do not see a Project Leader for your area and would like one, contact Data-Visualization@osu.edu.

Project-level Access

If you need project access in Tableau start by checking to see if your area has a Tableau project leader. If you do not, send an email to data-visualization@osu.edu. The Data and Analytics team will work with you in determining the next steps for access.
