Training Information: Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)

Owner: Business and Finance

Format: Curriculum

Purpose of Course

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) training is required annually based on the fiscal year for any faculty or staff member who has access to student financial and/or financial aid data because of their special obligation to protect sensitive personal information, such as student financial account detail. Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) is available between July 1 and June 30.

Assignments

This course is assigned centrally in partnership by the Bursars Office, Financial Training and BuckeyeLearn Support to those who require it on an annual basis. It is typically assigned in the Spring and due before summer break. The course may also be assigned or taken outside of the assignment window as needed.

Equivalencies and Prerequisites

This course is equivalent to Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) Accessible Version.  If a learner takes the accessible version, they are marked complete in the Gramm-Leach-Bliley (GLBA) curriculum.

Common Questions/Issues

Why was I assigned this/why do I have to take it?

You are being asked to complete this training because access management records indicate that you can view or modify student financial and/or financial aid data in one or more of the following systems: the Student Information System (SIS), Tableau, the Reporting and Analytics Environment (RAE), or Workday (specific financial tasks and reports only). This may include individuals using Sandbox as they can proxy as individuals and see this type of data. Contact oub-training@osu.edu if you have questions about your assignment to this course.

The course won’t mark complete on transcript.

Learners must complete both the course and the assessment with 100% to complete the course. Advise learners to re-take the assessment if they cannot get the course to complete. Also advise them to close the window if they pause so progress is reported to BuckeyeLearn. If this does not solve the problem, have them contact financialtraning@osu.edu

I didn’t pass the test with 100%, how do I know what I missed?

You can receive feedback from your transcript. In your transcript, find the GLBA curriculum and select the dropdown menu to the right and select Open Curriculum.  Then find the assessment and use the dropdown menu to the left and select View Training Details.  This will show your attempts and you can select Review next to any attempt. From the review, you can select the Incorrect Questions radio button and the Show Details check box to see what you missed and review the feedback. See the Review Completed Assessment job aid.
