Resetting Your Password
Since we only update our passwords about twice a year, it is easy to forget all the steps you can take to ensure your new password has synchronized successfully with all of your devices and applications.
Changing your password while working remotely may add a few steps. Applications may appear to be working correctly, but may not be synced and therefore, not updating as expected. To synchronize successfully, follow these tips:
- Overview: Follow these basic steps to successfully change your password.
- Update all devices: Don’t forget that once you change your password, you will have to update it on all applications and devices where you use name.# for access.
- Off-campus password updates: If you update your password while off campus, your device password may be temporarily out of sync with your new password. Until you access your device on “eduroam” or via VPN, you will need to use your old password to unlock your laptop.
- Password updates after expiration: If your account expires, please login at my.osu.edu and create a new password to restore access to university services.
You can always check the status of your Ohio State Username account at my.osu.edu.
