New Quizzes Available for Exploration in CarmenCanvas
During Autumn Break, the New Quizzes tool was made available in CarmenCanvas. This tool can be enabled on a course-by-course basis for instructors to explore. At this time, the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI) does not recommend using the tool in active academic courses, as it is still in development.
However, if you’d like to take a peek at upcoming quiz features, you can enable New Quizzes in one of your master or forum courses. Activating this feature for your course will allow you to choose between Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes when creating a new assessment.
There are many new features available with New Quizzes, including new question types and improved item bank management and sharing. Instructors will also be able to set accommodations for students at the course level instead of on a per quiz basis. This can be helpful in situations where a student may require more time to complete assessments, for example. New Quizzes also allows for easy printing of an assessment, with or without the answer key.
If you choose to explore New Quizzes now, please be aware that the tool is still being developed by the vendor. In particular, New Quizzes does not yet use the Rich Content Editor that is present throughout the rest of Canvas. New Quizzes is also not yet connected to your Course Files, meaning you won’t be able to seamlessly add documents, images or videos you had previously uploaded in your course. These will need to be added to a quiz manually.
