Retrieving Your Password to the RAE

PAM is a web-based privileged account management tool that is used to store passwords. The Data & Analytics team is using PAM to setup and configure user IDs for analysts that want to connect to the RAE.

RAE database passwords are system generated, thus very long and complex. They are also set to automatically change every 90 days. Thus, it is important for users to understand how to retrieve their passwords from this system.

  1. Navigate to PAM
  2. In the left application panel, click the folder "~Individual Work Secrets"
  3. Click the folder with your OSU name.#
  4. Click the folder that starts with "IDM". (For example, "IDM800399125-Managed-personal-159167920")
    1. Within this folder you will see two secret entries, one for Redshift PRD and Redshift TST. When your ID is created, you are provided access to both the Production and Test RAE systems; you will most likely only use the PRD information.
  5. Click the Redshift PRD secret entry
    1. Clicking the entry will show you detailed information about the secret. There are two important pieces of information here, Username and Password, with the password field only showing asterisks.
    2. Your database query tool (DBeaver, Tableau, SAS, etc.) will need these two values to setup the connection to the RAE
  6. Copy the values by hovering over the entries on the screen and click the icon that looks like a "double document" or highlight the values by selecting with your mouse and the using CTRL-C on the keyboard
