Drones Added to Category Buyer Listing
University Purchasing has recently updated the Category Buyer Listing to include Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or Drones under the AIRCR Category (previously under SATEL).
The Ohio State University is committed to providing an academically vigorous, safe and secure environment for all individuals and organizations. UAS offer opportunities for teaching and research, and provide the university community with valuable experiences in a wide range of academic disciplines. Operation of UAS is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and by federal, state and local laws. Anyone who seeks to operate UAS on university property, at any university-sponsored event or activity, or use UAS acquired with university resources must receive advance approval in accordance with this policy and comply with all restrictions or conditions set by the university and all applicable laws.
Purchasing Guidelines for the Purchase Request:
- Purchase of any UAS is a special approval category AIRCR and requires acknowledgement of the purchase from the Office of Risk Management (firstname.lastname@example.org). The purpose of ORM acknowledgement is to ensure the purchaser has been made aware of the University UAS policy and associated requirements. The Purchasing Commodity Manager and source which initiated the notification to ORM will also be made aware the purchaser has been advised of the policy.
- A PCard cannot be used to purchase/pay for an UAS.
- International purchases are processed by using the requisition to purchase order special approval workflow procedures. The payment method is wire fund transfer.
